Foreign Dish: Tom Yum

Filipino Style: Sinigang

Tom yum goong's spicy, salty, sour, and sweet flavor has made it a popular dish worldwide. Soup-based dishes like sinigang are among the most popular in the Philippines. As a replacement for lemongrass and lime, tamarind is traditionally used as a sour foundation in Filipino cuisine. Fish, prawns, or pigs can make sinigang, while tom yum goong is usually prepared with shrimp. In their native countries, these meals are affordable to all socioeconomic classes.

Foreign Dish: Saag

Filipino Style: Laing

India's food may seem nothing but a traditional dish of curries, brown rice, and flatbread to mainlanders. However, that's not always the situation in Indian dishes. Using spinach, yogurt, curry powder, and leafy vegetables like saag provide a tasty, nutritious, and somewhat spicy Indian meal. Despite its unpleasant look, the dish's taste shines through when served with cottage cheese or Indian paneer. Originally from the province of the Bicol region, Laing, a dish using taro leaves, has become a favorite among Filipinos with its spicy flavor. Indian meals and Laing are both delicious in their way.
