People visiting the Philippines are often puzzled by the country's dynamic diversity of cultures and customs. The following list some of the most significant traditions that only Filipinos can genuinely understand.

Pagmamano

Pagmamano, or "respecting elders," is a long-standing Filipino tradition. Elderly adults are supposed to tap the foreheads of younger people to do pagmamano gently. For this reason, when performed by an elder, it is sometimes called a "bless."

Bayanihan

Filipinos are recognized for their Bayanihan spirit, which reveals itself perfectly in times of difficulty. Essentially, it's a desire to help each other out as a society, working together under the concept that we're all kapwa. This is a collective identity, in the same way, that we regard one another as equals.

Courtship

Filipinos have a solid romantic inclination. A standard method of courtship is to sing, or Harana in Tagalog. An attractive young lady will be swayed by a man who sings in her front yard. A band of male friends is usually what he performs with. A suitor's friend traditionally plays the song's accompanying music on the guitar.

The Four-Month Christmas

As early as September 1, the four-month Christmas decorations can be set - up. At this point, many people begin to look forward to Christmas with a sense of excitement. The month of December is when Filipino families come together to remember their loved ones. Be prepared to attend multiple Christmas parties, whether your employer or a social group hosts them.

For Filipinos, parades are a massive part of their culture. Several events require a parade for every town and municipality, such as fiestas. There can be a month-long of celebrations depending on where you live. In addition, these gatherings serve as national celebrations, fostering spiritual and family relationships.
